Going from a rocket scientist to a high school math and engineering teacher might seem like a downgrade for most, but for Tammy Kuipers, it was one of the most fulfilling choices she has ever made. Sure the pay isn’t great and you inevitably run into a few problematic kids, but like most teachers, she gets a sort of supernatural satisfaction from helping awkward children along in their development. I had the pleasure of taking calculus and statistics from her during my high school career, and her bubbly personality and dedication to her work left a great impression on me. At 5’5” Mrs. Kuipers may not look like much of a threat.…

In all my years of education, no teacher has inspired me in a subject as much as Mr. Karmali, my calculus teacher in my senior year of high school. Mehebub S. Karmali, was a old asian-indian, in his mid sixties, who was proud to be teaching high school students the concepts of calculus. At the beginning of the year, I thought that he would be my worst nightmare from how my sister, and my upperclassmen friends talked about him. However, at the end of the year, I realized he was the complete opposite, he was the most dedicated teacher in the entire school. He was not just being strict, giving hard tests, or giving terrible grades because he wanted to be mean, he was passionate about the subject, and was dedicated to teach the students.…

She made me feel like I had a voice, and I felt like I was wearing the pink glasses from the story every time I was with her. She was available at all times, from brunch to lunch to empty periods, and students would always have the nicest comments about her. One day, a group of students had questions about an assignments after school, and she decided to cancel an important doctor’s appointment she had in order to make sure every student there received help. With this one action, this teacher influenced me to not only want to help others myself whenever I can, but to also follow her footsteps in becoming a teacher myself. “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning”. (Brad Henry) Not every person can be a teacher; it takes a certain kind of individual to be a teacher. Some qualities that teachers consume are patient, kindness, passionate, knowledge, and heart, also there are other many formal qualities that a teacher must need to be successful. At twelve years old in seventh grade I had this teacher that inspired me to become a teacher and ever since then, becoming a teacher has been a priority.…
