Every person is different in their own way. Shirley Jackson’s short story, “The Possibility of Evil”, is an example on how people are different in their own way. Mrs.Strangeworth seems like a sweet old lady, until you get to know her better. Mrs.Strangeworth’s character can be analyzed by considering what she does, what the narrator says about her, and how other characters interact with her. First is Miss.Strangeworth’s character can be analyzed by considering what she does. She is a Friendly lady. The story said she stopped and talked to everyone. “Walking down main street on a summer morning; Miss.Strangeworth had to stop every minute or so to say good morning to someone or to ask someone’s health.” A lot of people knew her. “When she came into the grocery, half a dozen people turned away from the shelves and counters to wave at her or call out good morning.” She always talked to the tourist. “She knew everyone in town, or course; she was found telling strangers- tourist who sometimes passed through the town and stopped to admire Miss.Strangeworth’s roses- that she had never spent more than one

The other characters like Mrs.Strangeworth. They view her as a kind person. I know this because, no one is rude to her. Even the teenagers, most teens are rude, and don’t care about talking to an elderly person. It’s not that most teens are rude to elderly people, they just don’t stop playing to acknowledge them. These kids on the other hand did. “Most of the children stood back respectfully as Mrs.Strangeworth passed, silenced briefly in her presence, and some of the older children greeted her, saying soberly, “Hello Mrs.Strangeworth.” Not only the kids were nice, it was everyone. “Good morning” Mr.Lewis said and added positively “Lovely day”.
