The movie portrays patients that are considered suffering from mental illness that believe to be caused of different circumstances in each of their lives. When a person is diagnosed with mental illness and doesn’t receive medical treatment will get worsen over time without the help of therapy and medication. Together with friends and family as a support group, treating mental illness is possible. In the movie, Mr. McMurphy played by Jack Nicholson is sent into a mental hospital to be evaluated for committing a crime. He led a group of mental patients against the cruel Nurse Ratched who likes to be in control of everyone well-being. The main characters consists of Mr. McMurphy, “Chef” Bromden, Billy Bitbit, Mr. Cheswick and Nurse Ratched. I

Cheswick show signs of anxiety disorder because he always worry about everything and scared to do things. When his break to smoke cigarettes was taken away by Nurse Rached, he started screaming at everyone feeling that they were all against him. The mental institution has several types of therapy that they offer to their patients. One of the most controversial therapy was the electric shock therapy, where electrodes was attached to a patient that creates a shock in the body. This therapy was given to Mr. McMurphy, Mr. Cheswick and the Chief after a fight during a group session. Then there’s a group therapy that’s supposed to help patient confront their problems by discussing it within the group. But it was not effective to the patients who are dealing with different type mental illness that they are dealing with different ways. It usually ended with most of the patients arguing and screaming to each other that lead to a fight. I thought therapy is to help people find a better understanding of the problem, but Nurse Ratched’s idea is making the mental patients illness even worse. In conclusion The One Who Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest give awareness to mental institutions and hospitals with unethical rules and regulations towards treating their patients.
