In "The Cast of Amontillado" by Edgar Allan Poe, the author demonstrates that the desire for revenge can destroy a persons sanity. Monstresor's determination to punish Fortunato leads him to commint an unspeakable crime. Monstresor wanted revenge for everything ever said and or done to him by Fortunato. While getting revenge he wanted no one to know how he would be get his revenge: " I must not only punish,but punish with impunity. A wrong is unredressed when retribution overtakes its redresser" Poe 87). Monstresor does not only want to punish Fortunato for the insult, he wants revenge for everything. This could destory his sanity and the way he felt he wanted to deal with everything, that made hin connit the unspeakable crime. In addition
