Who Is Michelangelo Portray The Beauty Of Virgin Mary?

Improved Essays
Virgin Mary is meant to symbolize purity and divinity. For that reason, Michelangelo’s decision to depict Mary as a youthful woman despite her old age served to effectively portray her essence. Being such integral part of the Christian religion, she is meant to represent someone of utmost divinity. She should not resemble the average human being, therefore, if the sculptor had chosen to portray her as an elderly woman, it would have detracted from the beauty of the piece. It has the effect that it does because it made note of her special nature. I feel as though if she resembled a fifty-year-old woman, this piece would not have attracted much attention, as other artists were depicting a similar scene at this time. They, however, depicted Mary

The beautiful gold and attention made so eye catching that I had to write about. It’s a wonderful piece of artwork and it would be perfect to stand inside of a church. I wish we knew who the artist was, so that could get the praise for such a wonderful job. I think this one stands out from many of the different The Virgin Mary sculptures during that time because of it’s color and the paintings at the bottom. I feel like the paintings at the bottom brings and emotional feeling to the piece and also adds to the story.…

She would use neighbors, friends, and family members pose for her while she drew or painted their portraits. She would draw them the way they presented themselves to be and did not tweak with their image. She drew them almost to the point of it being unflattering because she would not idealize them. Mary’s most popular reoccurring theme is mother and child. Some believe that this was because she did not have children of her own and was showing her desire to be a mother.…

Mary is two of the statues, Gabriel is the statue on the farthest left and Elizabeth is the statue on the farthest right. The two statues (Mary and Elizabeth) were actually made earlier and by a different artist than the Mary of the left and Gabriel. Mainly focusing on Gabriel and the Mary closest to him, one sees how incredibly detailed each of the statues are. These two portray The Annunciation, when Gabriel tells Mary that she will be the one to birth Jesus. Examining Gabriel first, one sees the really curly, short hair first.…

Michelangelo’s sculpture the Pieta for instance is in the shape of a pyramid. Mary’s head forms the highest point is serving as the vertex for the remain portions of the sculpture. Another unique aspect of the physicality and structure is Mary’s body figure. She is substantially bigger than Christ is. The physical reason why the proportions are off is that Michelangelo has to depict Christ as a fully-grown man in the lap of a woman who could physically look like she could support him.…

A curvilinear type of geometrical shape is seen on Virgin Mary’s head. Also there is a straight geometrical shape on the table the mother is sitting on. The artist might have decided to use a dark setting which is a better foil for the subtle modelling of his figures. There is a V-shape where the mother bends her head, looking at her baby which implies a negative shape. The braiding of the edges of Virgin Mary’s hair depicts texture.…

The art of Michelangelo has a three-dimensional form to his two-dimensional drawings and paintings. It is easy to see that Michelangelo is more naturally a sculptor than anything else because his pictures, as well as his paintings, are somewhat exaggerated as if they are sculptures themselves only two-dimensional. His subjects in his art defined with their chiseled features with one colored chalk with the creamy tone of the page with some white added for the highlights of the flesh. During his early career as an artist, his drawings drawn in pen and ink show diagonal lines in both directions demonstrate a technique called cross-hatching.…

The Birth of a Strong, Older Man The Moses is a statue made by Michelangelo Buonarroti in the early 16th century. From 1513 to 1515, Michelangelo sculpted the Moses for Pope Julius II’s tomb in St. Peter’s Basilica but it now sits in San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome. The sculpture is one of many famous works from Michelangelo where he used marble, gave it realistic and in-motion aspects, and used historical references to give the statue life. I think this sculpture is a unique and underrated work of Michelangelo’s.…

Virgin and Child Enthroned, was painted in the Thirteenth century, at time that everything was explained through the church, and peoples spirituality, were incredibly important. So in Thirteenth Century paintings, the holy figures were meant to make you feel small, they even painted Christ as a small man, to respect his role. This way of thinking was extinguished when the plague hit, and afterwards, people started to focus on things other than the church, the human experience. Thus there was a revival of ancient philosophy, and art of the Greeks and Romans. Humanism, a philosophy surrounding the human experience, and the beauty of earth, influenced Renaissance art.…
