Beginning a career at the age of 11 with the Jackson 5, Michael Jackson had a quick childhood that quickly debuted his career. Despite a financial struggle and many allegations placed against him, ‘The King of Pop’ had difficulty keeping a private life often made public (Biography). Michael Jackson was a legend who used past experiences to influence the present. Jackson made several unhealthy choices that impacted his career, but refused to let that define him. With regards to child molestation allegations, Jackson was sued after the case ended up settling for a private 20 million dollars in early 1994 (Michael Jackson Contemporary). Not only was Jackson juried in the criminal courts, but he was juried in the courts of public opinion causing “Jackson's reputation to be effectively destroyed and his finances to be in shambles” (Michael Jackson Contemporary). Jackson went back into the studio to try to remake himself and his finances. Jackson attempted to “release a set of remixes from ‘History’ and 5 other singles that barely sold one million copies” (Michael Jackson Biography). Given the atrocities committed by Michael Jackson, the court case and public humiliation was very appropriate for the child molestation allegations, but the death due to substance abuse was extreme. As his reputation and finances took a toll on him, he became more dependent on the sleep aids, migrating from simple sleep aids to anesthetics, causing his demise. If Jackson did not become too friendly with younger children early in his career, his career could have been a total success. Jackson should have been more conscious with his actions and thought about how it would affect his career in the long run.
