Who Is Leif Eriksson: Not The First Person To Discovery America?

Something that learned outside of school is that Christopher Columbus was not the first person to discover America. This something school has been teaching since the start of history class in the U.S.

The person who actually first discovered America, was Leif Eriksson a European sailor. Who left his homeland to discover a new world. This was 500 years before Christopher Columbus was even born. So Vikings were the first one to discover America.

Leif Eriksson family had a long history of discovering places. His father founded the first European settlement of Greenland. In 1000 A.D Eriksson sailed to his homeland of Norway and there the king converted him to Christianity and charged him with proselytizing the religion.
