Football is known around the world. But I don't mean football where you run and kick the ball into the net. I mean, American football. The kind that you crash into, make amazing plays and make great catches. Like in 2022 when Cooper Kupp had an amazing catch that resulted in a touchdown. But we're going back more than 2 years. Yes, we go back to 1981 when Lawrence Taylor was the best linebacker in the NFL. Lawrence Taylor Lawrence Taylor was an NFL linebacker for the New York Giants. He was a black man who was 6’3” and weighed 240 lbs. Before he played for the Giants, he played for the Philadelphia Eagles. Jerry Sisemore played left tackle in the NFL for eight years, then in 1981, Taylor came into the league. Jerry played the opposite position …show more content…
Jerry was getting paranoid about him. Jerry said, “My last year in the league, opening day, and he immediately got past me. He just looked at me and laughed. Right there I thought I had to get out of this game.” So that's why in 1984 he dropped out of the NFL. After his first year in the NFL, Taylor became the only rookie ever named the league’s most valuable defensive player. After Lawrence Taylor’s first season, all the teams understood that Taylor wasn’t going to play easy. They had to adapt to his playing style and rearrange the team in ways that they could block him from getting to the quarterback. Lawrence Taylor was the biggest threat for the New York Giants. Then in 1985, there was a game that would go down in history. It was the Giants vs the Redskins. Joe Theismann (the Redskins QB) was aware of Taylor and how he would need to keep an eye on him. Redskins star lineman Joe Jacoby had strained the ligaments in his leg so he couldn’t play. So they subbed him out for Don Warren and the Russ Grimm took Warren’s spot. The play started.
