In “Attack of the Republican Decepticons” (July 7, 2017), Paul Krugman asserts that Republican leaders are deceiving the poor and working classes by taking away their healthcare insurance and favoring the wealthy class over them. Krugman emphasized on this concern by descriptively detailing a few low points that shows the Republican leader’s deception, as well as explaining why healthcare is important in American especially towards the agings population. He used the rhetorical strategies, the belittlement charge in order to show the lack of concerns these Republican leaders had for the poor and working classes. Krugman takes a direct and factual approach while addressing the issues between the Republican leaders and the working class, specifically…
The issue of Income disparity of the working class has been a prevalent economic issue, especially since the industrial revolution in the United States. In The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, he explores the exploitive nature of capitalism during the infancy of the industrial revolution in the United States and the struggles of the immigrant working class. While this piece of literature is a work of fiction, it gives a typical account of the abhorrent working conditions and the lack of policies which protect the rights of workers. This expose helped push legislation which aimed to protect the rights of workers, and strengthened unions. While this helped with alleviating the issue of income disparity, there has been an increase in income disparity…
During the advancement of the Gilded Age, the United States saw an increasing disparity between the poor and the rich. Only a small amount of people had wages that allowed them to enjoy the life that they desire. The majority of American workers earned very little to fully enjoy life. In “Progress and Poverty”, Henry George criticized the current economic climate during the late 1800s and how we should solve it. George stated that as time progresses, poverty would expand and lead to even more problems.…
Foroohar references Joseph Stiglitz, the Columbia professor and former economic advisor to Bill Clinton when she shows how both “Republican and Democratic administrations have been at fault in crafting not only policies that forward inequality, but also a narrative that tells us that we can’t do anything about it” (Foroohar). This idea further supports the belief that the government must be challenged in order to create new laws and rules to structure our economy so that it is more balanced. Stiglitz emphasizes this idea when he explains how “it’s about the choices we make with the rules we create to structure our economy” (Foroohar). One of the reasons that the United States has not put forth effort in order to change the inevitable outcome of the lower classes, is the fact that they do not actually know how wealthy the upper class is. If the lower class was aware of the economic gap between classes there would be “riots in the streets” (Fitz).…
For many years, many Americans “considered the prospect of growing income inequality to be unacceptably undemocratic.” (Noah, 18). Income inequality is at its highest level since before the Great Depression and it is a situation that divides Americans. The best way to promote equal justice in American and the best way to maintain strong economic growth is to have…
The first article essentially argued that Trump tax cut benefited no one and had very little public support. It stated that the GOP proposed tax reform would raise taxes on most individuals including the middle class, add 13 million Americans to the ranks of uninsured all to pay for corporate tax cuts. After making these points, the article shifted gears into discussing how even CEO’s don’t support the idea. This is because they understand that changing tax rates is not that important a factor in business investment. Therefore, a huge tax cut would not lead to more spending.…
Krugman concludes by calling on the reader to “make your voice heard,” lest the republicans in the senate manage to dismantle affordable healthcare for…
Offshorable employment and the education system are both factors in the hole in the middle-class. Krugman's solution to this is bargaining, and there are more factors about a job than doing the work. Workers in America must give people a reason to hire them. A computer can do a ton of jobs, but they cannot be motivated and work hard towards specific goals. Nevertheless, there needs to be an incentive to hire a person over a computer or in a different country.…

According to the Census Bureau in 2010, “there were 42 million poor people in the United States,” and a large portion of those who reside in the middle class are approaching the poverty line, thus, augmenting the amount of people who live in the lower class. The authors Robert B. Reich, Gregory Mantsios, Alan Ajas, Daniel Bustillo, William Darity Jr., and Darrick Hamilton are experts within the field of economics and labor; however, all of these…

In a capitalistic based economy such as the United States, it creates incomes that are small and large. Having an unequal amount of large or low incomes is called income inequality. Income inequality has become a major problem in the United States, increasing 24% from 1968 to 2012” (Cochran). The gap between the rich and the poor is growing at an ever increasing rate. In the United States the gap is measured by relative poverty, or “being below one-half the nations income” (Cochran).…
Krugman explains in detail how the government can help with economy inequality. As a matter of fact, he believes government action is one of the the only ways. Krugman concludes that in America, high incomes are taxed less than what they were taxed the past. In addition he states, “Thus raising taxes on the rich back toward historical levels can pay for part, though only part, of a stronger safety net that limits inequality” (570). In addition, Krugman believes that “aftermarket policies” and “The Great Compression” can also lessen inequality.…
