I think Arthur is heroic not only because he is brave and courageous but also because he strives to live up to the code of honor he sets for his knights. He really tries to follow his code even when it is not of benefit to him. For example, he give Mordred a place at court because his code of honor requires him to do so even when he know that Mordred is dangerous. He does not want to acknowledge Launcelot and Guenever because it would break the code by bringing a lady to dishonor and would not be in the best interest of the kingdom. Even after he is at war with Launcelot, he is willing to meet with him honorably.…

The Matrimonial Causes Act of 1857 and debates about divorce also brought more aspects of private domestic life into the public eye, increasing, access to the scandals and secrets of other people’s domestic lives. Idylls of the King, in many ways, caters to Victorian interest in gossip and scandal, displaying openly the infidelity and turmoil within the marriage of two fictional royal characters and the various members of their kingdom. Perhaps it was these qualities reflected in the Idylls which caused some Victorian critics, such as Algeron Swinburne, James Spedding, and Gerhard Joseph, to react unfavorably to the poems upon publication. One fairly common reaction was aversion to the “predominance of harlotry” (qtd. in Adams 421) within the…

In “The Natural,” the character Pop Fisher is the coach and thus “king” of the “knights,” the ball team that the main character of the book joins and plays on. Furthermore, throughout the book he is mentioned to have a sort of athlete’s foot on his hands and that the Knight’s field also seems similar to a wasteland that would correspond with Pop’s hands’ condition, very similar to the “Tale of the Fisher King.” Other than his condition and relevance to the tale mentioned before, he is also known to be quick to judge, as he benches Roy for his first few games of being on the team, thinking of him as old and most likely not a good player. Moreover, Pop is also known to be bitter and sad because when he was a player himself he had made his team lose because of a “bad” ball. King Arthur is a well-known king from the well-known tale of “The Sword in the Stone,” but the variation depicted in “Once Upon a Time” is not that.…
