John Wilkes Booth was part of a kidnapping plan. His original plan was to kidnap Lincoln in a theater but many of his partners thought that would be too insane to even attempt. Eventually he comes to the realization that since the war is over, kidnapping Lincoln would be pointless for the reviving of the war. He then realizes that killing Lincoln would be more profitable. Since no other American president had ever been assassinated, Booth thought that it would make him go down in history as someone who saved the country. “There have been threats against Lincoln’s life ever since he was first elected” (page 111). President Lincoln had been receiving death threats for quite a while. Secretly, he thought that he would die in office. But he would never admit that. He was always the brave, noble President that everyone admired. He was prone to saying, “If I am killed I can die but once…but to live in constant dread is to die over and over again” (page 100).
