Perhaps, Booth realized this and to make his name known in the future he had to take another route. He was an impulsive young man that presumed Lincoln to be a malevolent tyrant that endangered the liberties of the beloved nation. Booth acted as if he was doing the best for his country and his race and it would make him a hero. He viewed himself as a vigilante seeing his actions for the betterment of the South.
