The Movie, “The Breakfast Club” by John Hughes and the short story “The Bicycle” written by Jillian Horton share many similarities in regards to, rebellion, living dreams through others, and characters throughout both stories. It’s important to discuss these two different stories because of the effect they can have on an influential person, regardless of being about two totally distinct stories from two very different times. In both “The Breakfast Club” and “The Bicycle” there is a strong central theme of rebellion, resentment, dreams and aspirations in life, and living dreams through others. The Breakfast Club has other minor themes that The Bicycle doesn’t follow such as stereotyping and the acceptance of others. The Bicycle having unique…

For this essay, I have decided to compare two “bad guys” that audiences always seem to love. One is your classic high school rebel in The Breakfast Club, while the other is Batman’s favorite villian in The Dark Knight. Judd Nelson and Heath Ledger share many similarities in their roles as John and the Joker, however I think the biggest difference between the two actors is the amount of intensity put into their characters. John is a troubled young man, who seems to be mad at the world. Judd Nelson does a good job giving this character a very distinct personality with his overall misunderstood look.…

Fantasies provide an escape from the daily hassles of life. When one thinks of a fantasy, one may conjure up things like unicorns flying in the wind, elves dancing around a Christmas tree, or like the poem expresses, touching dragonflies and stars. All incidences are unreal, imaginative. Ernest Bormann, however, had another perspective on fantasy altogether. Fantasy is dimensionally acquired through dramatization and rhetorical vision.…

Brian and I also found a way to accept who we are and founded confidence in ourselves. At the end of the movie The Breakfast Club, it is noticeable the difference in how Brian was at the beginning when he was shy, and not confident of himself and at the end when he could accept who he was and be proud. For me it didn’t happen from one hour to another but with time, and a lot of pep-talks to myself, I could respect myself for who I am and not give to cents what others told me. This new founded confidence in myself not only help me become stronger mentally, but it also gave me a re-new determination to want to make me feel good on the outside as I was feeling in the inside. I begin to lose weight, and take time to myself.…

Multiple factors affect whether or not Junior will make it to school on time or even make it to school in the first place, such as whether or not there is enough money to fill the car, if the car is functional, or if his father is too hungover to drive him (Alexie, 88). A cartoon in the book illustrates the frustration that Junior feels from this particular instance. As well, this cartoon and many others convey Junior’s emotions effectively to the reader, keeping he or she engaged throughout the novel.…

The Breakfast Club (Part Two: Theories) Social Identity Theory: “Tajfel (1979) proposed that the groups (e.g. social class, family, football team etc.) which people belonged to were an important source of pride and self-esteem. Groups give us a sense of social identity: a sense of belonging to the social world.” (McLeod 2008) In this movie there are five adolescents trying to find themselves and fit in within the groups they currently belong or have migrated into; the exception of one, Allison who acts out in mannerism that isolates her which is easier than trying to fit it.
