I was young. I was weak. I was another fish in the sea. But having a sister close in age helped me. With her in my life, I gained an identity, a personality, somewhere I belonged. Although she is older and worthy of more respect than I am, seeing her every day fills me with a sense of purpose. A sense of proving myself. I am the youngest in my family, so you could say I am treated the best by my parents. But in my sister’s perspective, I am another creation who snatched the privilege from her. But no matter the circumstances, no matter how many arguments we have, no matter how many competitions, we will never be adversaries. I believe my sister is a beneficial rival, not a burdensome adversary.

Almost to take her place and slowly make my way to the top. But no matter how many competitions or games I beat her in, she was persistent. Never giving up. Her persistence is the main reason why she influenced me in ways no else in my family could. Not only did I learn from her experiences but also her mistakes. Fortunately, she helped me learn from my mistakes too. This relationship where I learned from my sister resembled that of the young siblings of To Kill A Mockingbird, Jem and Scout. Just like Jem, my sister was more composed and influential. I took the role of Scout—young, untrained, and wanting to prove my capabilities. Over the years, I’ve seen how my sister has been and continues to be a beneficial person in my life. Today, I know our competitions represented more than just a winner, they represented a comeback. Because my sister never gave up, in turn, I never gave up. Through our competitions, I learned valuable life lessons. Like Atticus, our competitions taught me life lessons in the midst of my mistake: Competing for …show more content…
Her name is Lika. Over the years, the distance I had between her closed exponentially. We are one year apart. I always thought she wished I hadn’t been born, but from such thoughts, I learned to empathize before I judged someone's actions. Even without speaking, my sister was influential and reminded me of my duty, not as her brother but as a compassionate person.
In the beginning, I was a competitor in game to prove myself worthy, yet the result was an everlasting bond and friendship with my sister. I opposed her for a game, but I learned important life lessons. We were distant from one another, yet closed that gap by spending more time with each other. I believe Lika is not my adversary, and from many experiences, I know she has been and continues to be very beneficial in my life. This is a rivalry I’m now grateful to have and could not have been the same without. I am her friend. She is my friend. We are siblings. We make great

In the beginning of chapter 10, Jem was acting very immature and really thought badly about his parent, Atticus. Jem was complaining about many other kids having their dads play football for the church, yet Atticus never did anything fun. He would not play football, besides catch, nor would he go and shoot the gun with Jem and Scout. All Atticus does is sit around and read. Jem thought at the beginning that in order to be a “real man” you have to be rough and participate in manly activities.…

Jem and Scout grew quite a lot throughout this novel, but the one who I think grew the most would have to be Jem. Jem has went through a lot in this book, he was attacked by a stranger (So was Scout), learned many things regarding courage, bravery, ect. Because of Jem being the older sibling, his job is to protect and care for the younger ones. He does this in many situations which is why I also think Jem is the better character. Even if he isn’t the main character or the narrator.…

The book “To kill a mockingbird” ny harper lee is a literary work that sheds light on the darker side of american history. Set in the 1930s, prejudice based on skin color was very apparent even though you couldn’t legally say that it was. Slavery was outlawed and the constitution amended so that Black men should’ve been “equal”, this was certainly not displayed in the book . The story follows a motley crew of young children slowly maturing and finding out about the racial injustice that was everywhere in the time period. The metaphor of the mockingbird applies to many characters and can be used to analyze the overall meaning of the book.…
