Who Is Jean Lafitte A Pirate

Jean Lafitte was a pirate from the Gulf of Mexico. He and his brother Pierre, smuggled goods. He was also a Privateer. He fought in the war of 1812. He takes a pretty big part in our early american history. Jean Lafitte born in either Basque-France or the French colony of Saint-Dominique somewhere around the 1780. We don’t know much about his early life. In 1805, he and his brother Pierre operated a good smuggling warehouse. In about 1810 to 1814 he moved his business to the Barataria Bay. Jean fought a big part in the world of 1812. The U.S offered him $30,000 dollars to fight in the war. He acted like he was doing it but warned then warned Louisiana officials of New Orleans Peril.
