Helmuth Hubener, a young German schoolboy in The Boy Who Dared by Susan Campbell Bartoletti, grows up during the Nazi takeover. He doesn’t agree with the current situation in his country, but Helmuth keeps quiet for a short while before he gets involved in illegal act outs. During this rebellious time, he pulls in two of his friends to help him. “‘This kind of law must be broken. And besides, the Gestapo will never catch us,” says Helmuth ‘We’ll make sure they don’t. They might find the leaflets, but they won’t know who did it. And they’ll never suspect kids.’ (Bartoletti 126-127). Helmuth does not even consider how much trouble they could get in. He needs to learn how to think of the consequences of his actions. Furthermore, Helmuth needs to think of others before himself. He acted out because he wanted to, and did not think about how he would be responsible for the reason of why his friends would be in jail. …show more content…
Helmuth needs to improve on thinking of others before himself. Before Helmuth is about to act out he pulls his two friends Rudi and Karl into the situation. When the boys get caught the three of them get punished, Helmuth did not consider what would happen if they got caught. He pulled his friends into his illegal activities before considering what would happen in the event that they get caught. Another example of a time when Helmuth could have used this advice is when he moves away. Helmuth’s mom marries, Hugo, a man who has a lot of respect for Hitler. Helmuth moved away because he could not stand how rude and self-obsessed Hugo was, so he moved into his grandparents flat. When he moved Helmuth did not think about how it would affect his mother. She always loved her son, so it must have been hard to let him leave, I believe that this situation could have been handled differently and would have been a win for both

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne transports the reader to World War II, an unsettling time in history where a blind eye was turned to the fact that one’s fate was depicted by their race. This novel follows the life of Bruno, a young, wide-eyed German boy, who is forced to move from his comfortable and rather luxurious home in Berlin to the horrifying concentration camp, Auschwitz due to the demands of his father’s promotion. Boyne masterfully tells the story from Bruno's perspective; clearly showing that the innocence of Bruno's childhood remains intact despite the fact that he is living on the periphery of a death camp.…

One day he saw her walking with young officers and he immediately went into a jealous rage and said the whole officer class was now his enemy.
