Harm de Blij's " Why Geography Matters More Than Ever " is a book containing information much broader than the interaction of humans and their environment. The introduction starts with a basis ; explaining the roles of a geographer, historic events concerning early times in the Greek and Roman expansion, and the regard of geography's poor state due to the lack of knowledge. Though sometimes hard to read, I found Blij's research very interesting and factual. Blij intended for the reader to see the importance of understanding geography. His flashbacks into history provided countless examples of why even a basis of geography is important. Changes in climate, economy, and agricultural, all have an impact on the movement of people, places, and ideas. Colonies are moved based on the environment around them. Immigration takes place due to the economy and the agricultural of a certain place. Place is the identity of an idea or an objects location. Buildings are placed based on the structure and economy around them. People live and place themselves in order to gain something from that location. All four of these themes applied to the book and made the book much easier to
