Titanium, by David Guetta is an amazing ballad that brings out urban, house, and pop music. This powerful song tells people to BE YOURSELF. While the popularity has grown over the years, the center point of the song is still the universal theme. Being yourself is an important aspect to living a life. Without the truth, you can never find who you really are. Your true, core identity rather than a fake one to attract others is the correct strategy. The people who like you for who you are, are the ones who will be there with you in every up and down no matter what the circumstance. A character who struggles with being herself is Squeaky or Hazel Elizabeth Deborah Parker from the amazing story “Raymond’s Run” written by Toni Cade Bambara. This …show more content…

No matter where you are, or what you look like, it is the most greatest impression you can leave on someone. Being yourself defines everything, from your friends to your family. Squeaky, throughout the story transforms from a tough and mean girl to a kind and sweet girl. As she finds ways to bury her sadness with her mother’s girly expectations, poverty, and taking care of her older brother, Squeaky has to learn to be herself and not defend her difficult life. The hardships she must face get in the way with Squeaky’s true identity resulting her to being someone who she isn’t. With all the bullies in town, instead of being herself, she needs to be tough and aggressive to defend her older brother. If you pull away Squeaky’s ability to run, all you are left with his a young girl living a very difficult life. You are left with the truth of Hazel Elizabeth Deborah Parker. Well, how does she deal with the truth? This is the question the author leaves the reader to grasp at the end of the story. This powerful thematic message of being yourself, is what boosts Squeaky to keep going. This young girl, desperate to hide her real life, transforms into someone who is kind and open.
