Who Is Grandpa Bruno?

Improved Essays
Grandpa Bruno Grandpa Bruno had always been a very mysterious man. He always had a good story to tell us kids, the stories he told would make the back of our hairs stand up and give us nightmares for days. It was hard to believe how that old sweet man could come up with such eerie tales. I was going to miss Grandpa Bruno. He was an old man with silver gray hair, and green eyes that were barely visible through his wrinkly face. My mother and I had missed him by a day, he died before we could say our goodbyes. From Grandpa Bruno's death I learned that my family was not as it appeared to be; his house was a house with a long history, and he was not as boring of a person as I thought him to be.

The tavern had served of great destruction, men in the town spent most of their time gambling and drinking, many men dying after fights and leaving families destroyed and in poverty, yet it was also the home where Grandpa Bruno lived most of his life, this house had sentimental value to him, he wouldn’t dare get rid of it. He was a newlywed when his father died and had passed the business down to him. His first wife Miriam was against the tavern and wanted him to close it down; for Grandpa Bruno this would be hard, it was their only source of income, and it was very lucrative. But everything changed unexpectedly for Grandpa Bruno when he felt the heartache that everyone else felt. One night while Grandpa Bruno was out of town and Miriam his wife was running the tavern a fight broke out and in the mist of it all Miriam had been shot, she died instantly without suffering. When Grandpa Bruno returned, he was devastated, it was then he decided the tavern had to go. Wasting no time he shut down the business, he cleaned it out and made it into a local store. The town was happy, relieved and in good spirits, finally the tavern was gone, all along while Grandpa Bruno dwelled. The heartaches that families had once felt was now hitting home, and just like them, grandpa Bruno was now feeling the pain this tavern brought. He had become a hero without …show more content…
I’m not sure if it was due to the great pain everyone witnessed him endure, all while losing his first love and the business that had been passed on to him, but for whatever reason the name grandpa Bruno made for himself in that town was one to be admired. I learned a lot about my family and my grandpa Bruno that day, all of the stories he told us had a background, it was his life, he always said things were never the way they seemed to be, it all made sense now, he was right, nothing is ever what it seems to be and speculations are just that,
