Who is Gabriel Garcia? To everybody he is a student from Tempe High that plays many different sports and keeps decent grades. At home he lives with a single mother in a crappy apartment. His only other family are two sisters, Stephanie and Yvette. His father, like many other families, has been absent for many years of his life. His life has been a struggle with people constantly doubting him. His journey is a long one and isn’t close to being finished. From the beginning of his life, to school, and the future to come. His dream of going to colleges only started when he was in eighth grade. Only this month has his sister joined a college to become a nurse’s assistant. If he continues his path he will be the first in his family to finish high school and go to college right after. “There was a lot of pressure on me to succeed. My nieces look up to me. They’ve never seen anyone in either side of the family get close to going to a good college,” (Perez 3). He wants to be an example and someone that his nieces could look up too. There are many obstacles in everybody’s lives. For Gabriel there are a ton and there are many too come. He has said that there are people who are going to put you down but that doesn’t matter, all that matters are how you get back up and what you do once you’re up (Perez 2). Like many other students he doesn’t know what he wants to do in life. For the first time there are options for him. He doesn’t have to conform to what is given to him. For the first time he could do whatever he wants and the only person that is in his way is himself. There are a lot more obstacles in his way but if he stays on the trail he’s on right now he’ll be more than capable overcome these
