Who Is Friar To Blame For Romeo And Juliet's Death

In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Friar is the one who Romeo and Juliet go to for help and advice. Although Friar was trying to be helpful, he actually was more harmful to Romeo and Juliet’s relationship. His advice resulted in Romeo dying, and eventually several other too. Friar married Romeo and Juliet even when he thought they were moving too fast, then when Romeo was exiled, he came up with the plan to reunite Romeo and Juliet which ended up with putting Juliet to sleep and then Romeo killing himself because of it. In the plan Friar gave Juliet, Friar was supposed to send a letter to Romeo explaining that Juliet was not actually dead. he should have made sure the letter was sent and Romeo got it. Because this did not happen, Friar is most at fault for Romeo and Juliet's deaths. Romeo goes go talk to Friar to discuss wedding plans with him and Friar says: “Wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast ” (Act Ⅱ, scene ⅳ). This shows that even though he told Romeo he thought they were moving too fast, he would marry them anyways because he realized that this would also help end the feud between the two families. Because of this, Friar came up with a plan to help Juliet and this is why Friar does not live up to being there for Romeo and Juliet. Friar did not fulfill his part of the plan, to make sure Romeo got the letter about what all was happening and that Juliet was not actually be dead.
