Who Is Ford Pinto Wrong

The pinto was one of Ford’s biggest mishaps that happened in the 1970s.It caused a lot of pain to a number of people even though Ford could have prevented by installing an 11 dollars part. Their thought process for not installing the part was due to the lower profit margin and the higher price that the vehicle would have been sold . If Ford were to recall the vehicles sold to the consumer then it would cause pain to a lot of people instead of causing pain to a small number of people if there were no recall. The cost would benefit them if there were no recall since it would only cause them 49 million dollars instead of 137 million dollars for the “pinto drivers if the car is redesigned”. He knew that lives would be lost in the most painful way and lives will be affected but he chose to ignore the warning signs of the test that his engineers conducted. He could have stopped the production for a redesign but he value money more than the human life. He should be responsible for his action of causing a lot of lives lost and be put on trial for his lies to the consumer like Lee Joon who did a similar thing to the public. Lee Joon was the president of Sampoong Group and was responsible for the collapsed of the Sampoong Department Store in Seoul, South Korea that claimed the lives of 502 people and injured another 937 people. He was in a similar situation as Ford in that he knew that his building was unsafe to the general public but decided against the advice of others and built it anyway. There were signs of the building failing such as cracks in the concrete similar to Fords gas tank tests but they both ignore the warnings and told the public that their product was safe. In the case of Lee he had to pay out about $350 million in damages and he was sentenced to prison for charges negligence and bribery and convicted on manslaughter. So Ford should be put in a similar situation where he would be in court to defend his case and prove what he did was

Millions upon millions of cars are recalled every month, a staggering number that should give consumers reason for concern. What some may not realize is that recalls are not always handled in a timely fashion, even with rental cars. Unfixed Recalled Cars and Car Rentals Although rental car companies may eventually comply with the recalls, that doesn’t mean the affected models have been repaired. Furthermore, there are no laws stipulating that unfixed recalled cars cannot be rented.…

With tens of millions of cars recalled over the past year, there is a good chance that your customers own cars with at least one or two open recalls. An open recall means that the recall is incomplete either because the customer has yet to respond to the notice or the manufacturer has yet to provide guidance for when the work can be accomplished. Open recalls present an opportunity for dealers to turn owners of recalled cars into buyers of new or certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles. Specifically, you can leverage consumer concern about a recall by selling them a different vehicle and accepting that open recall vehicle as a trade in.…

Adding additional production costs to the Pinto when the car was meeting government standards in contrast to only a small percentage of fatalities or injured Pinot drivers convinced Ford to go ahead with delivering the flawed cars. The cost to fix the problem Pintos greatly outweighed the statistically projected cost of ignoring the problem and doing nothing. According to Ford the high cost associates with the small percentage of fatalities or injured justified the poor treatment of the minority for the betterment of the majority, a flaw in the moral theory of…

Ford and Bridgestone/Firestone acted inappropriately handled the tires crisis because none of them admitted wrongdoing and they both blamed each other for the crisis. Why was this inappropriate? The crisis was brought to the public attention when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration contacted Ford Motors and Bridgestone/Firestone about deadly accidents related to Ford Explorer models. Both of the companies responded coherently in the beginning by opening communication lines with each other and communicating with the NHTSA. However, the companies started acting inappropriately when they refused admitting wrongdoing and pointing fingers at each other.…

Ford and their investors are also stakeholders in this case, as the sales of their vehicles determines profit and directly influences the value of investors’ investments. While a car company generally has the power to piece together a vehicle however they please, investors are salient, and they could bail out of their investments if they see lower sales. According to investor behavior, once one investor flees, others will follow suit, so it is imperative that Ford and other car companies maximize profit. The companies clearly feel competitive pressure in these situations, and this can lead to ethical failures…

By not redesigning the tank and its position, or to change the tank product that would cost $11, but they decided to stick to their previous model because to amend the tank’s design and position is time and money consuming. Mother Jones magazine, got hold of a copy of the cost/benefit analysis which revealed Ford comparing the cost of $11 repair against the cost of paying off potential law suits, which is known as the Ford Pinto memo. Is amazing that ford failed to adhere to moral compass to carry out proper ethical decision instead they took a wrong approach. Ford decided it would be cheaper to pay off possible lawsuits for resulting deaths than to change or alter the design.…
