Who Is Farah's Misunderstood?

In life, all sorts of people are misunderstood throughout their lifetimes. Some of them face it at work, when others face it in school. In the story “One Green Apple” by Eve Bunting, A girl named Farah comes from another country to move to a new home. She goes to a new school with no friends. People misunderstand her because she doesn’t know English very well, they treat her like she is unintelligent, but that soon changes. In “One Green Apple” Farah is misunderstood because of 3 events throughout the story. The first time when this happens is when Farah is with her class on a field trip to some apple trees to produce apple juice when her teacher privately talks to Farah. “Jim he says and points at himself.” Farah claims. This shows that Jim is misunderstanding her because he also thinks that Farah does not understand much, so he is treating her like she is unintelligent. That is an example of a misunderstanding because Jim is treating her in different ways. This makes me think that the people act differently in Farah’s new home.

The last time this happens throughout the story is when on the ride to the apple trees, a girl named Anna came and sat next to her. She was trying to be nice to her, but she ends up misunderstanding Farah. Farah claims, “The girl who sits next to me smiles and points to herself. “Anna,” she says. She points to me. “Farah!” She says.” Anna is treating Farah like she is from another planet. This shows Farah getting misunderstood because she is being treated differently because she is from another place. I think that Farah is lonely because of these events throughout the
