College in the 21th century should have general version of majors, and when a person gets their masters or PHD when they get more specific. But there are different opinions from Liz Coleman a speaker on a TED Talk video, Walter Kirn a personal story of his journey for knowledge and Aristotle giving the reader three Rhetorical Appeals and Minerva a new age college, as well as mission statements from different colleges. The way Liz Coleman summarizes her argument is that she wants a broader college experience less specific majors and more of a renaissance man ideal. Walter Kirn tells us his story about how he went to the top colleges and university but he learned nothing and then later it clicked for him, that all the topics he was taught had…

Performing gestures ranging from hand motions to body movements to form a unique art that is different than one self “allows the emergence of the being-in-a-medium of human beings” (Agamben 57). It is through the human body that makes choreographed dance and impersonation possible, but unfortunately it takes great efforts to maintain the performance of this art. In the scene where Scottie first meets Madeleine at the restaurant, Hitchcock presents the elegance Judy mimics as the actress: her body gestures are smooth, her arms barely move as she walks. Her long dress mimics the shape of a ghost and she seems to glide just like one; nothing about her is choppy or disorganized (Hitchcock 17:50-18:26). But when Scottie first meets Judy walking with her friends in the streets, her gestures contrast greatly from Madeleine’s with her arms swinging quickly as she walks, her hands making inelegant, jagged gestures, and her confident strides (Hitchcock 1:31:50-1:32:38).…

In Bryan Stevenson’s Ted talk he addresses the issues and injustices in the criminal justice system. The first main point that Stevenson makes is that there is a large degree of disconnect between what happens in the criminal justice system and communities of poverty, and what happens in those of affluent or middle class wealth. He illustrates that the train of thought is often, “that’s not our burden” when concerning issues of mass incarceration and poverty. He explains that we must be engaged with the issues of the poor and the suffering to fully evolve as a civilization. This disconnect is made clear when Stevenson compares the attitude of Germany to that of the United States on the topic of the death penalty.…

Human beings have always used Mother Nature as an object for healing. Before there was synthetic medication, like penicillin, people turned to the natural world for antidotes to remedy what was considered to be abnormal. The world of medicine was split into two as synthetic drugs emerged; one was western medicine, where synthetic drugs are highly utilized, and the other was eastern medicine, where natural remedies still dominate. Treatments for mental illnesses today are mostly dealt with by using the western medicine approach, but what if nature itself is a cure or a factor that can alleviate the symptoms of these illnesses? Before the urbanization of the world, exposure to nature was a daily occurrence for people. As the years…
