For this journal assignment, I had the most difficulty settling on a single quote. There were several that resonated with my personality and philosophy on leadership; however, I decided on a wonderful quote by Eleanor Roosevelt. She stated that “you gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”
Eleanor Roosevelt was the first lady to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. However, during her husband’s presidency she was in charge of numerous roles. Unlike other first ladies, Eleanor Roosevelt was not content with being in the background. She wanted to demonstrate that she could also be a significant figure in politics. Leaders are not automatically born into this world. I believe that leaders develop their characteristics through misfortunes and sufferings. This quote is particularly inspiring since I believe that everything happens for a reason. Whether those experiences are remarkable or despairing, both can teach valuable lessons. When one stares fear in the face, they can feel insignificant. It may have been an extremely frightening encounter; however, when you finally face your fears and accomplish your goal, you reflect back astonished. You would never have realized your true potential until you had to pick yourself up from hitting rock bottom. As a result, you come out enhanced with more confidence, strength, and courage. Furthermore, these experiences can be used as a reminder of your accomplishments. Now that you had accomplished your fears, there is nothing that can stop you. If you were able to live through those hardships, then you can accomplish
