The “Big Five” was first introduced in 1984 by McCrae and Costa. It falls into the personality aspect of psychology. This theory is different from other concepts for many significant reasons. For instance, we can compare it to the “Four Temperaments”. The reason why the “Big Five” is more appealing is because of the fact that the “Four Temperaments” theory is not empirically-driven. The “Five Factor Theory” contains the following factors: Openness to experiences, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism. A person would be rated on these five personality traits on a scale from zero to ten. Zero being most negative and 10 being most positive. Openness to experiences is when somebody is imaginative, original and as wide interests. We can see this is Dwayne Johnson because he has an interest for a variety of things, such as fitness, acting, canoeing, art and religion. He is very adventurous. Furthermore, he also falls in strong into the next factor which is conscientiousness. Conscientiousness is to be organized, through and efficient. Dwayne Johnson carefully thinks a problem through taking any action, assessing and analyzing the matter carefully, and he can be trusted to deal with situations in a reasonable, and sensible way with anything he faces. He has always been motivated to become success by learning and growing as a person. Of course, he made a lot of money, but that hasn’t always been the case. Unlike most starts, he only started making large amount of income in his early thirties. Motivation is the products of people’s thoughts and expectations. This is divided in two parts. There is the “Intrinsic motivation” and the “Extrinsic motivation”. Intrinsic motivation is when somebody is involved in the activity because they enjoy the process of it and because it is personally rewarding. For instance, they feel joy while performing the activity and enjoy they thought process of it. On the other hand, “Extrinsic motivation” is when one engages in the activity to receive a reward. Research has shown that those who pursue success out of “Intrinsic motivation” tend to be more success full. I think that this is because they are passionate about what they’re doing and being they constantly want to keep growing. In my opinion, extrinsic motivation is often miss used. I think that it can be a very useful tool when properly used.
