After World War II ended, African Americans realized that the United States fought for democracy and equality in other nations but failed to achieve that domestically. Thus, civil rights groups and organization arose with the ultimate goal of getting equality and complete freedom from the chain that whites put in them. Furthermore, MLK became a well-known figure in 1955 after he was chosen to be the protest leaders and spokesmen after Rosa Park was arrested for refusing James F. Blake’s order to give her seat to a white passenger. Highly educated, MLK kept on learning from activists such as Mahatma Gandhi, and hence was targeted by numerous people that viewed him as a threat. On September 15th, 1963, at 10:22 in the morning, America would not be the same again, as sticks of dynamite planted by the Ku Klux Klan, in the 16th Street Baptist Church, blew up four little black girls. What was supposed to be the debut as ushers in the church for Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson and Cynthia Wesley turned out to be the last day of their lives. Their story started out like any other day, specifically a warm Sunday morning, in which each of the girls walked briskly and cheerfully along the sidewalk to church. Upon arriving, the girls, wearing thick white dresses, perfectly sewn together by their mamas, engaged in brief conversation, and…

Slaves from Africa brought along their religion and as more slaves were born in America they inherited the beliefs of their ancestors. Native Americans held true to their spiritual healing practices for the sick. Eventually a mix of all the beliefs would blend into the entirety of American South religion. “As the South went through the slow and sometimes agonizing process of modernizing, religion provided justification for the wealthy to profit from economic development, but it also gave meaning to those bearing the burdens of economic change without proper recompense. Throughout such changes, religious organizations remained central institutions of southern life” (Wilson, C.).…

The United States is no stranger to racism as it had suffered from it for well over four hundred years. He was, as the person who announced him said, the leader and public face of the civil rights movement. This in itself is enough to confirm his credibility, his Ethos, and King seems to know that. He does not speak about himself during his speech, does not recount the multiple times he’d been sent to jail, nor does he describe all the efforts he’d put into the movement up until then. He doesn’t do any of that, what he does do, however, is talk about his children. In perhaps the most famous line of his speech, he reveals a hope that his children will someday live in a better world than the one they currently occupy, “I have a dream…” he proclaims, “that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character…”…
