To start off, Desdemona was so compliant to Othello because in that time period the wife was supposed to be devoted to their husbands. Desdemona is clear that she will be loyal to her husband as soon as their marriage is public. She explains her ‘ duty’ as a wife, which her allegiance will pass to her husband. “I am hitherto your daughter. But here's my husband, And so much duty as my mother show'd To you, preferring you before her father, So much I challenge that I may profess Due to the Moor, my lord”. In this quote she clearly adamant that she will remain loyal to Othello. Another quote would be her final words before Othello strangles her, “I never did Offend you in my life; never loved Cassio But with such general warranty of heaven As I might love. Moor was the word which characters labeled Othello. People in this time Called anyone who had a different complexion than white as moor. In the beginning of the play Brabantio blames Othello of Witchcraft because of his African descent. Iago even refers to Othello as a “ Back Ram” behind his back and carried out a plot that eventually led to the death of him, Desdemona And Emilia. It wasn't really clear why Iago really hated Othello, but he makes a lot of remarks about his race making him out to be a racist.
