Who Is Dean Winchester?

Regardless of the idea that Supernatural is a horror show, in my opinion, it is more so a show based on family values and love between two brothers and other people that comes into their lives. Dean Winchester is one of the greatest characters ever to finesse a television screen. His actions in the show are both believable and identifiable. This is in part because of the distinguished writers that work on Supernatural, but mostly because of the phenomenal acting of Jensen Ackles. The terrific writers in the world can mastermind the outstanding character in the world, but if you hand the character over to unskillful actor, then writing becomes middling at best. And of course the opposite is accurate as well. For example, give a skilled actor a poorly written character and he can surpass the worst script and make the character more than the writers could …show more content…
I have noticed Jensen Ackles do this with other roles that he portrayed, for example, TV-Shows like Dark Angel as Alec McDowell, Smallville as Jason Teague and in the movies like Devour as Jake Gray and My Bloody Valentine 3D as Tom Hanniger. Jensen has the range and nuance to play a puzzling, many-sided character with seeming ease, giving us an opportunity to share in Dean’s agony, rage and happiness.
Dean Winchester is a flawed hero and that’s what makes him ideal. He can be overbearing, bossy, stubborn and close-minded, but he can also be brave, intensely protective, unconditionally compassionate, and extremely loyal. Dean Winchester can be amazingly altruistic and incredibly narcissistic, or sometimes in the same breath, for example, in the season 2 episode 22 “All Hell Breaks Loose, Part II. No one can narrate to a character without imperfection and Dean has them a plenty and willingly admits it. He doesn't endeavor for perfection. He doesn't even think of himself as a hero. He does what needs to be done

I will discuss acting with James Dean in the film Rebel without a Cause in terms of his performance, star image, and physical appearance. In the opening scene, James Dean imitates a siren. We are immediately drawn by him, not only through his imitation but by his appearance. He’s immediately shown in a full body shot, in a somewhat rather sexual pose. His portrayal of a drunken teenager is spot on, as he stumbles and rambles on throughout the scene.…

In the novel Moo, Jane Smiley uses Dean Nils Harstad, Marly Hellmich, Dr. Gift, and Chairman X to emphasize how, when there is a conflict between personal belief systems and workplace practices, individuals will sacrifice their morals to reduce the amount of time or effort required to achieve their professional or personal goals. The belief systems discussed can be either religiously, politically, or economically centered. Using religious symbolism, Smiley utilizes the sacrificed beliefs of the above characters to symbolize how when administrators and educators take shortcuts to line their pockets, the American education system suffers. Dean Nils Harstad is the prime example of a character who takes harmful shortcuts, as his interactions…

For this essay, I have decided to compare two “bad guys” that audiences always seem to love. One is your classic high school rebel in The Breakfast Club, while the other is Batman’s favorite villian in The Dark Knight. Judd Nelson and Heath Ledger share many similarities in their roles as John and the Joker, however I think the biggest difference between the two actors is the amount of intensity put into their characters. John is a troubled young man, who seems to be mad at the world. Judd Nelson does a good job giving this character a very distinct personality with his overall misunderstood look.…

According to dictionary.com, a hero is “a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character”. In Grendel by John Gardner, the author portrays Grendel in such a light that he is not the hero of the story, even though he is the protagonist. Grendel gave a specific list on what qualities a hero must have, and he has the exact opposite of those qualities. He says that a hero should be great with women, stand tall, be self-aware, and have a great vocabulary. The exact opposite of a hero is a villain, and if his qualities are the exact opposite of being a hero, then he is, therefore, the villain.…

“The hero and the psychopath may be twigs from the same genetic branch.” That’s what behavioral geneticist David T. Lykken said in his book The Antisocial Personality. Though they seem like exact opposites, many of the character traits associated with psychopathic behavior – like fearlessness, brashness, and willingness to take risks – are also linked to the kind of behavior we admire in heroes. And there is increasing evidence to support the hypothesis.…
