Who Is Connor Splingaire's STEM Club?

Improved Essays
Ever since his friends urged him to join STEM club, Connor Splingaire loved it. At first, he liked the idea of “an outlet for students to contribute their love for STEM related activities”. During his junior year, physics and Calculus caught his attention, because of this, he found his love for engineering. He wanted to be in STEM club to learn more about it and have some background knowledge, now he is majoring in engineering in college. In STEM club, they work on many projects, but his favorite is definitely the 3D printer that they are still actually working on now. He likes it so much because of the challenge it brings to the group, and how it enhances their teamwork capabilities to bring the group together and increase overall effectiveness.

Although I did not get to perform incredible acts of surgery with the machine, I learned about its potential and made me wonder about the other creations that continue to revolutionize the world. By joining the Plan II Honors program, I hope to learn about the discoveries in our world and understand how people think. I also want to develop my critical thinking skills and gain knowledge in different fields and understand how they interconnect.…

The Journal article, “What Makes a Great Maker-Space?” introduces ideas and strategies to incorporate learning labs and STEAM labs into the schools. The term makerspaces is used to describe an environment where students have the freedoms to explore ideas and problem solve with and without the use of technology. A high school math teacher named Casey Shea was approached about an education project where spaces were designed to promote thinking and creativity. The makerspace does not need to be full of expensive technology, it simply needs to be a space that is available and inviting for students’ learning. The makerspaces range from simple libraries to advanced machine shops.…

The Dominican Republic; a place where you can count the opportunities of success with one hand. If you didn’t have a connection to someone in the government, the chances of obtaining a job were improbable; this was common knowledge amongst the people of my country. I often found myself eavesdropping on my friends conversing about escaping to America. As tempting as America sounded, I knew illegally entering was wrong. I was 17 years old when the connotation of “America” changed for me; my father came home with wonderful news: we had been given the opportunity as a family to move to America.…

It wasn’t until high school that I really began to understand how I could actively utilize that pragmatic and enthusiastic part of myself. I reveled in the increasingly abstract problems and concepts from my math and science classes that discouraged my peers. Despite that, the only class that managed to completely captivate my attention was my computer science. Every problem that I encountered in that class seemed like a thousand piece puzzle with only the tiniest of clues to hint at a way I could solve the problem; the challenge was intoxicating. Equipped with greater knowledge about computers and code from my teacher, I could take on more daunting challenges and projects than I could have ever imagined when I was nine.…

Years ago at a staff meeting, the presenter distributed an article with an image of a group of teachers running in a pack ahead of a schoolhouse. My coworker doodled a stick figure on it, labeled it “Natalie,” and said, “Natalie, wait up! Slow down!” I chucked, but in the years since, I have been supporting and working with my colleagues instead of running ahead of them. When I was asked to complete a 20time project as part of SDSU EDL 680 Seminar in Personalized Learning taught by Jeff Heil, I selected a project that would benefit all of the invested adults of my school.…

Another reason I chose computer science is because computers are shaping the direction our world takes and I want to play a part in that. The idea of writing a program that helps a physicist decode the secrets of the universe or a doctor discover a cure for a serious disease holds great appeal for me. Computer science is a continually growing field and with computers becoming involved in almost every aspect of our lives it should remain so for the foreseeable future. Thanks to computer chips imbedded in everything from basketballs and shoes to computer-controlled thermostats more and more computerized data is being produced daily and to manage the acquisition, storage and use of this data will require computer scientists [1]. While sending jobs overseas will slow some aspects of computer science-related job growth overall computer science jobs are expected to continue growth through 2020 [3], [4], [5].…

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE As a child I remember watching an episode of ‘I dream of Jeannie’ which within the world of my childhood innocence brought about a spirit of magic. I recollect spurts of apparition amongst the characters, moving from one place to another in literally the blink of an eyelid. But what remained back in my head was the crux of the entire series where one can see the genie named ‘Jeannie’ living in a bottle with all her belongings and a room like structure all within that thin bottle. In another episode I remember her packing for a long trip in tiny suitcases the size of Hershey’s cone chocolates and putting them in her bag.…
