Who Is Casca In Julius Caesar

The Character Casca in the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare is an elected official who speaks for the common people of Rome. As an elected official, Casca knows first hand the lack of character that Caesar possesses and does not deem him worthy of being a King. In knowing this he and other Romans try to get Brutus to become King. Casca's whole idea was that Caesar was unfit to be king, but he knew that without someone highly regarded by the people that the plan would fall apart. "Are not you moved when all the sway of earth shakes like a thing unfirm"(3-4). I think that this is comparing Caesar to the earth because he considered himself a God when all the conspirtors just thought of him as a mere man."Indeed, they say that the Sentors tomorrow mean to establish Caeser as King, and he shall wear his crown by seeing land and everyplace save here in Italy" (86-89).Casca thought it was absolutely distraught that he would wear his crown and show off his glory everywhere but Italy. With all of Rome and the its people Casca had his work cut out for him and needed the others to prove to Brutus that what they were doing was right."Into what dangers would you lead me, Cassius, that you would have me seek into myself for that which is not in me?" (65-67) Many of the conspirators talked to Brutus but it seemed he would have to make up his own mind. Brutus wanted to walk his life in virtue and it seemed that he would never go for Casca's plan. "For let the Gods speed me as I love the name of honor than I fear death" (90-91). Brutus was loyal to Rome, so to commit treason even if Caesar was not completely fit to be king was against his nature.
