My Family Journeys

When someone is born they are born into a family. They are born into a culture which has been there for generations. There are stories which have built the foundation into which the child will grow up on. Growing up going I never realized that the sum of my families stories and journeys would make up a part of me as I get older. Coming from a tough Mexican background has really shaped me into the person that I am today. Initially, my family, as in my parents and I, where one of the first to come to the United States and live completely independent. Due to this we had some economic issues sometimes as well as just the fact that we were alone most of the time. I always felt secluded from my cousins and other relatives. I never grew up close to any of my other family members. I began to notice this especially when we would take our weekly trips to Mexico on Sundays to visit my grandparents and they would give my other cousins money and not me or my brother. Now it was not about the money, but just the fact that because we lived in the United States they believed we had a much …show more content…
Family being thirty minutes away, both down south and up north, we did not really take trips to go see them. We began to manage just the four of us. My dad eventually had to work out of the city, then out of state. Before we knew it we were only seeing him once every three months. Once that became too heavy for him, he decided to only take jobs in state, but this led to the financial problems again. My dad ended up working weekdays and on the weekends the whole family would go out and sell at the flea market. At first it felt weird, but it eventually became just like a normal routine. The worse moment were the summer time. Having to be outside during the long heat temperatures was the hardest part of selling at a flea market. With long working hours for my dad, and long weekends at the flea market, we managed to get
