Roman Holiday is a 1953 film produced and directed by William Wyler. It stars Audrey Hepburn as a royal princess who is distressed with her scheduled life. The plot takes place in Rome when princess Ann, Audrey Hepburn, sneaks out of the palace to explore Rome where she finds fun, freedom, romance, and maturity. Although this was her first starring role, she perfected her character and became an overnight sensation.(CITE) In the scene where the princess is about to be tucked into bed, she expresses how she hates her nightgown and wishes to wear only the “top part” of pajamas or even nothing at all. Hepburn does a flawless performance demonstrating the princesses naivety. This scene follows up with her looking outside her window at the Roman nightlife, displaying her want for being apart of the modern-day lifestyle of people out in the town of Rome. Then as she is finally tucked in bed and reviewing her plans for the following day she becomes hysterical about not being able to do or say what she wants. Hepburn’s execution of …show more content…
Audrey Hepburn won the Academy Award for best actress, received a Golden Globe, and a few other awards for her role in this romantic comedy and it was well deserved.(CITE) Her believability of being a childish princess who had no control over her life was executed flawlessly in the beginning scenes of the film through her dialogue, tone of voice, and actions. She limps in her final attempt to escape, remains unable to go anywhere. Petruchio uses this to his advantage and deceitfully convinces her father by claiming that she agreed to wed on Sunday. Then, he locks Katherina in her room before she could make any objections and she understand she doesn’t have much of a choice, but to attend the wedding. Wedding Day, perhaps the most embarrassing and appalling wedding day ever; Petruchio had the audacity to arrive late, arrive poorly groomed and dressed, although he says, “To me she’s married, not unto my clothes.” (Act III, Scene ii) straight forward meaning and is rightfully true, has a coughing fit during the matrimony, takes extra sips of the wine, pretends to be drunk and drowsy, pretends to temporarily misplace the wedding ring, and when Katherina’s turn to say her vows she’s interrupted from saying “I do not!”…

This was essential in keeping the audience's attention since there were not many actors or characters. I thought the best actor in the duration of the play was Lauren Ufkes who played Reba. Her performance stood out to me because of the timing of her one liner's that was crucial to the comedic facet of the play. Without her natural delivery of her lines, the laughable parts of the play would fall short and it would seem like the play is dragging on. She never takes the scene away from the other actors but weaves her character generously through the acts.…
