Atticus Finch grew up at the Finch Landing and has two siblings, Alexandra and Jeremy (Lee 5). Atticus Finch is an excellent lawyer. Scout says he “went to Montgomery to read law” (Lee 5) at the beginning of the 1900s. He then marries and has two children, Scout and Jem. This scene shows the readers one of Atticus’ secret talents. He is a “One-Shot Finch” (Lee 128). In this scene a rabid dog is walking around in Scout’s neighborhood, and the men are forced to put it down. Scout says “Nothing is more deadly than a deserted, waiting street” (Lee 125). Everyone in the neighborhood was terrified of the dog and stayed locked inside their houses. When the sheriff, Heck Tate, arrives, he is forced to make a tough decision. He tells Atticus “Take him, Mr Finch. . . this is a one-shot job”” (Lee 126). This forces Atticus to reveal to his children and neighborhood his amazing shooting abilities. He successfully puts down the dog without harming any of the Radleys. This is my favorite part because it shows that Atticus can step up when he needs to. The whole neighborhood was in danger, and Atticus decided to end things. The scene shows he is humble, yet takes charge when he needs
