Who Is Antigone A Tragic Hero

Working title How far would she go to stay loyal to her family? Would she go beyond what she was told not to do? Would she forget about the laws of the state and go with her instinct? In the drama, Antigone these are a few of the questions that Antigone was faced with throughout the entire play. The tragedy was wrote by Sophocles’ in the 6th century BC (Willocks). Sophocles’ added a third actor to the play. Antigone chose to go her own way and thought what was right instead of what the state thought was right. First, in the drama Antigone the main character has a tragic flaw. Her tragic flaw is her stubbornness. For Example, Antigone is in an argument with her sister Ismene. “And now what of this new edict of which men speak that our captain has just published to all Thebes? Have you any knowledge of it? Have you heard? Or is it hidden from you that our friends are threatened with the doom of our foes?” (Sophocles). Her hamartia shows in these few lines because her sister is trying to tell her to just leave it alone and go along with what king Creon says but, instead she goes along with what she feels is right to her.
