This is the first indication that Alisoun is trapped inside of a home and isn't allowed to spread her wings and be the wild eighteen year old she is because she is held down. “I woot right wel I nam but deed,’ quod she” (110). Alisoun also feels as though she cannot leave her relationship because of her husband which makes her feel as though she is stuck in a world she does not want to be in. Her husbands jealousy and over protective personality scares Alisoun into not doing what she truly wants to do, make love to Nicholas. John is forcing her to grow up too fast and be tamed at a young age which is part of the reason we see Alisoun act out.
