Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hodgenville, Kentucky. However, he grew up in New Salem, Illinois. He married Mary Todd and together they had four children; only one child lived long enough to be an adult. Lincoln became the 16th President in 1861 and continued until April 15, 1865 when he was assassinated.
In the Lincoln presidency, a lot was accomplished. He led the Union to victory on April 9,1865, after a long, drawn out Civil War. Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation and signed the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery.
