Who Is Abigail Williams Play In The Crucible

In the play the The Crucibles, Abigail Williams is one of the main characters in the play who does deserve the blame for her faults and mischievous actions. She is the antagonist of the story by manipulating the people around her and in the end hurts her self physically and mentally. Abigail is seventeen years old and lives with her uncle Reverend Parris and cousin Betty Parris, the other main characters in the play. To be brief, there has been activity of witchcraft in the town of Salem (setting of the play); being caused by Abigail and the local girls. They pretend to be under the spells of witchcraft to protect themselves from life threatening consequences. Abigail faults are very obvious to the reader, but not to the people she is manipulating around her, thus, why she does deserves the blame. …show more content…
It is very humorous how clueless the characters are by not seeing Abigail's obvious actions. For instance, in Act two, John Proctor one of the main characters and the tragic hero in the play. He had an affair with Abigail and becomes aware of what is happening. He said,"Why do you never wonder, if Parris be innocent, or Abigail? Is the accuser always holy now...little crazy children are jangling the keys of the kingdom...I will not give my wife to vengeance!" This means that there is obviously a physical force causing the negative factors, but no one is looking for the logical part of it. Only the things that wouldn't cause it at all. This is the plot caused and planned by Abigail, because one she is trying to save herself and second, wants John Proctor's wife
