Abigail’s Character
In 1692 Salem Witch Trails came about. These trails came about because there were a group of girls that wanted things their way or no way. This is evident when the girls danced in the woods with Tituba because, they thought that would allow them to be able to kill the wife’s of the men they desperately wanted to be with. The main character that does this throughout the Crucible was Abigail Williams. In the Crucible, Abigail Williams becomes the main cause of witchcraft because of her selfishness, bitterness and jealousy. Abigail’s selfishness, bitterness and jealousy caused many innocent people to loose their life. She made the town believe that “witchcraft” was real when really all she wanted was to kill Elizabeth so that she could be with John. Since was able to convince people that the “witchcraft” was in the village she was able to attempt to make her wish come true. Abigail continued her plan even though she know John didn’t want to continue the affair. People like her are people you should stay away from because they only care about themselves.

This is evident when she says ”You loved me, John Proctor, and whatever sin it is, you love me yet!” (Miller 14). She knew that John didn’t want to affair to continue but, she was being selfish by trying to persuade him that he still loves her. Another example of Abigail being selfish is when Marry Warren says “You did, you did! You drank a charm to kill John’s Proctor’s wife! You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor. (Miller 13). She was being selfish here because her intentions were to kill Elizabeth so that she could be with John Proctor. Abigail knew everything was a lie the entire time but kept being selfish
