Abigail’s Past The Crucible by Arthur Miller was written in 1953 .The story is about the witch trials in Salem , MA . In the story, Abigail is an orphan who lives with her uncle Parris. She is a very remarkable liar who later ends up getting many people killed at the end of the story because of her many lies . Abby’s behavior in the story is terrible and she’s very careless about it and she isn't afraid of the consequences. Abby’s behavior and character in the story was developed because of what she went through . Ever since Native Americans raided Salem and killed her parents in front of her and after the affair she had with John Proctor she couldn't care less about hurting others.
Although , Abby was young when her parents were killed, she still witnessed their deaths . Abby felt that because she had seen blood before “ I have seen some reddish work done at night, and I can make you wish you had never seen the sun go down” (Miller 892), and if she had to see it again it wouldn't matter and …show more content…
Abigail fell in love with John and everything she did would be to try to get him. When John would deny her she yelled at him “ I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I come here!” (894). She never wanted anything bad to happen to John but because he denied her and wouldn't be with her and he stayed with his wife she did what she would have to do to make sure that her name stayed good.
Abby saw the horrific death of her parents that contributed to the development of her character in The Crucible and the affair she had with John Proctor . Seeing her parents be killed made it easy for her to not even care about having others killed because of all of her lying. The affair with John Proctor prepared her to not care about anyone's feelings because she didn't care about Elizabeths . Abby lied throughout the whole play to save her
