Abigail fell in love with John and everything she did would be to try to get him. When John would deny her she yelled at him “ I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I come here!” (894). She never wanted anything bad to happen to John but because he denied her and wouldn't be with her and he stayed with his wife she did what she would have to do to make sure that her name stayed good.
Abby saw the horrific death of her parents that contributed to the development of her character in The Crucible and the affair she had with John Proctor . Seeing her parents be killed made it easy for her to not even care about having others killed because of all of her lying. The affair with John Proctor prepared her to not care about anyone's feelings because she didn't care about Elizabeths . Abby lied throughout the whole play to save her
