Rocky

Who doesn’t love the movie Rocky? In my opinion the movie is one of the best movies of all time. Yes, the movie is just one of those typical inspirational underdog stories about the American Dream, but in my opinion the movie tells the story of the underdog the best. While you make think that is the main theme of this movie, to me this is more of a secondary theme; this movie is more than just a story about the underdog. The main theme in this movie is the love between Rocky and his friend Paulie’s sister Adrian, the power of love or the power that love has to transform you. In this film we also have a great film score. The films music is scored by Bill Conti, who is most famous for the

Therefore the music in the film will be used in a variety of ways, film music helps us as viewers know the mood of the scene, and the music will have themes that go along with the themes in the movie for characters and for the plot. Since the movie Rocky is a very emotional and inspiring movie, so is the music. In my opinion, Bill Conti composed a brilliant and beautiful score for this film from start to finish. When it comes to Rocky there is no doubt that in this score for the movie Conti created one of the most recognizable themes ever with Rocky’s training theme with the song Gonna Fly Now, but the movie score has more to it than just that theme. In addition to the movie main theme, the opening scene with the street corner singers sets the tone for the movie; Conti is also one of the first composers to score the music throughout the major fight in a movie, which builds tension until the tension ends at the final bell. Because of this, and the different ways he uses the musical themes for the movie and for the characters the score makes you feel more emotionally invested throughout the entire …show more content…
The first scene that we will talk about is obviously the most famous scene in the movie because it is the most recognizable; this is one of the more classic movie scenes and songs of all time, the training scene or montage. In this scene we see Rocky doing various drills for his training such as running, punching a speed bag, and doing pushups. The music to this scene starts as horns that build up into a chorus of electric guitars and chants of getting strong now, moving on now, and trying hard now. Without this music it would just be a boring scene of watching a random guy doing these exercises, but with the music we get the triumphant Rocky we know and love. Another scene that shows this is when Micky goes to Rocky’s apartment to ask to be his manager. In this scene first is the absence of the music that builds the drama and then music comes in at the end of the scene and we learn what has happened during the scene. In the beginning of this scene Mickey comes to the apartment to talk to Rocky about becoming his manager and it is because of the absence of music that signifies this as an important scene, but while this is happening and argument breaks out about where was Mickey ten years ago when Rocky could have used somebody like him. In the middle of this argument Micky leaves the apartment, Rocky continues to yell angrily at him while he is leaving when Micky

After hanging up from talking to my mother, I decided to take her advice. If I have to watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show for class that it would the best if I was to actually experience the show, this culture, this step into the past, instead of just watching the musical on my laptop and thinking this is the strangest musical in the world. I looked up if there was even any showings still of this musical, and lucky there was one this the Nuart Theater, of course the midnight showing. The price was only $11, a price I luckily could afford as a poor college student. I called up a few friends, family members, and my roommate…

The scene and the music perfectly paralleled the Japanese restaurants we have here in North America where they play cultural ethnic music while you are served your meal. There were no evident leitmotifs that could be identified in the movie, however, Newman used various themes to portray different scenes. For example, at 00:39:03 when Randall comes out, his darker theme were played alongside to immediately make him the antagonist. Furthermore, at 00:33:41 Newman used Boo and Sulley’s theme to represent the bonding moments between our two protagonists. An example of a stinger when Randall suddenly kicked Sulley at 01:11:39, it was created by cellos playing a low note suddenly.…

The 1986 film, The Mission, uses music to enhance the viewer’s emotions and interpretations of the scenes. The film score by Ennio Morricone is so important to the film that it is the main focus of some of the scenes. The dialogue in this film appears to be lacking. In the excerpt of the movie there is very little dialogue and when there is it’s kept short and to the point. The music fills in the long gaps between conversations.…

Ennio Morricone’s film score for The Mission, made the movie possible. The music tied the characters, dialogue, and perspectives together. If the music in this movie were removed it would not be a success. Roland Joffe and Ennio Morricone came together and made it so that the music and images were equivalent. The score adds so much depth and emotion to the film.…

purposely use older popular songs to attract older viewers pushes back against the notion that popular music is only marketed to youth. Starr and Waterman also discuss the importance of older generations as a target audience when they examine the use of rock ‘n’ roll as a nostalgia factor for the baby boomer generation. One case study that can be used to examine the elements of comedy film trailers is the three installments of The Hangover: The Hangover (2009), The Hangover II (2011), and The Hangover III (2013). The Hangover trilogy is the highest grossing comedy film franchise and it is a good example of how a film franchise uses popular music to establish an aural branding and promotion of a distinctive sound across all three films. The…

One of my all time favorite films is Forest Gump. Before now I hadn't thought about how the music impacted my experience of the film. The storyline is so compelling that I was caught up in that and not really listening to anything else. Now that I think about it, the music really plays a role in helping to tell the story more so than I realized. It serves as a solid background, it helps to set the mood, and adds to the character's traits.…

My favorite film is Remember the Titans. The film is about a football team and their struggles with integrating an African American high school and a Caucasian high school. Taking place in Virginia in 1971, the film shows the racial tension of the community using techniques to make it cinematic. One of the ways that allows the viewer to understand the tension in the movie is with camera angles.…
