1. Who was Charles Darwin and when did he live?
Charles Robert Darwin is a very well-known naturalist. He is known for his research into his theory of evolution, a theory that modern-day scientists believe to be true.
Charles Darwin was born in the small English town of Shrewsbury on the 12th of February, 1809. He was born into a wealthy family and his Father was a medical doctor and his Grandfather was a botanist. At the age of 16 Charles Darwin enrolled at Edinburgh University, where his Father hoped he would study to become a doctor but unfortunately Charles Darwin became nauseous at the sight of blood. Instead he studied natural history and after two years at Edinburgh University he began attending Christ’s college in Cambridge.
He died at his family house in London on April the 19th, 1882 and is buried at Westminster Abbey.
2. What did he do on his voyage on the ship the HMS Beagle and what did he discover?
The primary focus of Darwin’s voyage was to complete comprehensive study into various plants and animals around the world.
Darwin set sail in 1831 as an unpaid naturalist assigned to accompany the Beagle’s captain, Robert Fitzroy. Darwin sailed to South America and returned through New Zealand on a five year voyage. Specimens in the Galapagos and Pacific Islands and South …show more content…
Research into the theory has provided enough evidence to consider the theory likely to be true. One of the main pieces of evidence that supports Darwin’s idea that everything evolved by one simple life-form is DNA. Every living thing on Earth possess DNA, which is a complex structure. It much more probable that DNA was formed once to create the first living thing than DNA forming multiple times to form different living
