Who Dat Nation Case Study

The Who Dat Nation is loyal. Almost to a fault. Most Saints fans are still nostalgic about the Saints 2009 season and the 2010 Super Bowl Championship. Fast forward seven years and the Saints' fortunes under Sean Payton are less than stellar. In the last three seasons, Sean Payton's winning record as the New Orleans Saints Head Coach is poor. He has guided the Saints to only 19 wins out of 45 games, a 42% winning percentage. Failing grades and failed coaching.

The failures of the underachieving and inconsistent Saints are a close reflection of their head coach and his coaching staff. The questionable personnel moves and poor assessments of free agent talent have only compounded the problem in New Orleans. The reality for the

From one week to the next, the Saints have juggled Marcus Murphy, Tommylee Lewis, Cadet, Byrd and even Hightower to field kickoffs and punts. How likely would anyone be able to break long returns if they do not work with the blockers on a consistent basis? Flashes of potential from Murphy and Lewis have been combined with flashes of inconsistency. But, how can a young returner show any progress if Payton "yanks" them at any hint of "costing the team a turnover"? This, I can understand to a point. Murphy has not created a turnover this season. Yet, Payton chose to replace him because "he allowed the ball to hit the turf." Mark Ingram fumbled twice and was replaced with Hightower. Drew Brees has thrown 14 interceptions and fumbled four times. Where is the benching of Brees? Or, has there been any disciplining of Brees by Payton on the sidelines? Most likely, no. I would not bench Brees, however, the inconsistency in his disciplinary actions are glaring.

Is Sean Payton a good head coach? What does his record say? It spoke of success early in his career as the Saints Head Coach, but, what about today? 19 wins out of 45 games in 3 years is not a winning formula as a head coach. Many have been fired with more wins. The question will be if Payton can direct the Saints to an 8-8 record instead of delivering the third straight 7-9 record. Or worse, 5-11 or 6-10. Is he willing to allow Pete Carmichael

Tim McManus of ESPN believes that the hiring of Doug Pederson for the Eagles will help the players in the locker room and boost the overall morale of the team. Doug Pederson, a former temporary Quarterback for the Eagles and former assistant coach under Andy Reid, understands that a positive environment is a great first step for leading a team to success. Pederson is not a motivator unlike many other coaches, as he prefers to read from a script and chooses to be straightforward with his players since he was once a player himself. McManus first gives the reader a feeling for what it is like to be a new head coach in the NFL, as there is a great deal of scrutiny ahead as every interaction is closely observed. He then includes a quote from one of the…

There is Joe Montana, Roger Staubach, John Elway, and Peyton Manning, but, who is the Best quarterback of all Time? This leads to a very popular debate. There were so many tremendous quarterbacks who played the game of football throughout the years. But there is one that comes to mind, his name is Tom Brady. I believe Tom Brady is the Best quarterback of all-time due to the fact that he has more Super Bowl rings than any other quarterback in NFL history, with five, and the record for Super Bowl MVPs of any NFL player.…

With a big game like the one he played in, it is easy to get off track. This is what divides the men from the boys so to say. But as pete states “Less than two seasons into his college career, Watson has pushed Clemson from a fringe title contender best known for unexpectedly losing big games to lesser teams to a legitimate title threat. Watson came in with five-star billing but lacked any of the Johnny or Jameis drama associated with top quarterbacks over the past few years” (Thamel). When you bring a school that is like that to a more relatable school you have to play and win in some pretty big games.…

    New Orleans Scandal

Introduction New Orleans, Louisiana was awarded its first National Football League franchise on November 1, 1966. The franchise became the 16th team in the National Football League and was named the Saints due to the fact that the birthday of the franchise falls on the Roman Catholic Church’s All Saints Day; widely appropriate considering New Orleans is predominately a Catholic city. The city of New Orleans and its beloved franchise has had to deal with some of the most adverse situations imaginable. For example, on August 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans and caused widespread damage to the Saints home stadium, the Louisiana Superdome. That year the Saints went just 3-13 however, bounced back in 2006 with a trip…

Doug has missed the first 3 weeks of the year and hasn't played in a month so we should monitor his workload this week. The good news is that he has fresh legs and looks to be in TREMENDOUS shape! Winston and the Buccaneers are averaging just under 278 passing yards which is 3rd in the NFL. It could and should be a lot more but Winston's and Desean Jackson's chemistry just isn't quite where it needs to be. In the last few weeks, Winston has either underthrown or even sometimes overthrown Jackson (which I didn't think was possible).…

Global Effects The Super Bowl utter dominance within the U.S. fails to translate onto the international stage. It is behind a number of sports, such as soccer, rugby, even cricket. It’s American-centric base excludes the rest of the world, as other countries are much more focused on sports where their own people are competing. Even when referring to the sport, one must say “American Football”, rather than just football, as the rest of the world uses that term for soccer.…

Top Ten Position Needs for The Dallas Cowboys: Over the next few weeks I’ll be counting down the top ten needs by position for the Dallas Cowboys, as everyone is anxiously awaiting the off-season to fix all they saw go wrong in 2015. Many people have different ideas of how to fix this 4-12 mess, many with valid points. While I strongly support a best player available approach to the draft I’ve ranked the needs how I see them, feel free to debate. Another note, Dallas should have nine draft picks and I have ten needs; obviously they would have to address some in free agency and you should expect them to make a move or two.…
