Has there ever been a time were you just need someone else's thoughts well in these two excerpts “Who Are You Maria? From Call Me Maria by Judith O. Cofer and The Watcher by James Howe”. Words make a difference in Maria a conversation occurs between her grandmother that is a powerful set of words, while in The Watcher the set of words can be heard in a different way. In both of these passages there's powerful dialogue given by the elders that does help the characters in both scenarios they are set in, with Maria and her open mind and even and his straight up mid these two characters have a lot in common and their next step are valuable to what happens next. Maria is a15 year old girl who was born in puerto rico, has just moved to New York City or Nueva York with her father and her name is maria of course. She is a charming little girl who goes to school, their school is having a “Dress Up Day” or a show yourself day. Maria is told her instructions, she must wear clothes to school that show herself, how she feels and who she is. Maria goes home and tells her grandmother she is having the “who are you day”. So then the grandmother and Maria start looking through the clothes, then they finally find the perfect outfit then the grandmother says her quotes “She knows who i am and who i may be if i choose”. This is showing how the grandmother inspired Maria to be herself and this quote not only affects her emotionally but in general it affects her self esteem for example “all day in school i feel elegant whenever anyone tries to make fun of my costume i think of the words my grandmother said” this shows that she has a good self esteem and she really does care about what others say she loves to take good comments and this skill is very helpful for her she then gets to show who is is and she liked
