Who Am I Without Him By Sharon Fllake Analysis

In the character lens of the story “Who am I Without Him.” Written by Sharon Flake, I felt that the author expressed the character lens to tell young teenagers how other teenagers get affected by things that don’t really matter in life. In this story, Raheem treats her bad and seems like he doesn’t care about her. Raheem, is the boyfriend of the main character. Raheem appears to be having an affair with a red head girl at the bus stop. “His sweet brown lips, pressed against tight on hers.” The characters weakness in this story is her thought, that she thinks she’s ugly. While having a weakness, she has a strength as well. Her strength as said in the story, is her body. “My body is my strength in boys.” The characters way of being is realistic.

November 11, 1993 –a date typically dissociated with the remembrance of America’s involvement in Vietnam. On this day, the female Vietnam Veteran memorial was dedicated in honor of unspoken heroes, ones whose experiences are unparalleled to the soldiers who partook in the physical fight and incomprehensible to the public’s mind. These brave women, some married, engaged, or mothers, held the burden of a war with undefined intentions both physically and mentally, during combat and upon returning home. Although they played a role in a new kind of warfare, felt the personal sting of the anti-war movement, and suffered from PTSD much like their male counterparts, there was little research done on the nurses and nearly no recognition granted for nearly twenty years.…

In the book “Loves executioner” by Irvin Yalom begins with a prologue, describing his various encounters with patients. He shares 4 principles of psychotherapy that he found evident in each of their cases “I have found that four givens are particularly relevant to psychotherapy: the inevitability of death for each of us and for those we love; the freedom to make our lives as we will; our ultimate aloneness; and, finally, the absence of any obvious meaning or sense to life”. In order for an individual to successfully heal and gain the most from therapy, they have to overcome their limitations they set upon themselves. As in the case of “The Wrong one Died” Penny could not overcome the death of her child Chrissie and as a result n¬eglected her 2 other sons. While Carlos was unable to form sincere relationships with others, his demoralization of women didn’t help…
