Of course I was scared, who wouldn’t be? I was crying not only because I didn’t understand what had happened, it also had to do with that I thought my younger brother was hurt. My mom tried to calm me down, but I still wouldn’t believe her that everything was okay because my brother was quiet. If I had known what was going to happen that night, I wouldn’t have left the house in the first place. At the age of eight, there were only a handful of things I fully understood. The only thing that my brother and I were excited about this day was going to our mom’s friend’s house because they were entertaining people. That day we packed everything we wanted to bring with us and our mom got us in the car since she had somewhere to go. “Are you guys excited?” my mom asked as she plugged in her phone. “Yes!” we both responded after exchanging glances. She will be here shortly to take you both to her house,” my mom said with a calming voice. I looked at my brother and his face looked as white as a sheet. He only nodded to what mom said and I told him that everything would be alright. It’s funny because I didn’t think everything was alright, but I wanted my brother to feel better. My mom sat back down in the driver’s seat with her door open, so she could watch for our grandma. “Kids grandma is here!” she said with a smile. Her smile was warm and comforting, which made me feel better about her still going to Cedar Rapids. We got into our grandmas car and she drove us back to her house in Ryan. “How are you guys doing?” my grandma asked in a concerned voice. I could only nod to respond for both me and my brother.
