Whitten Scholarship Essay

I think I should be considered for the Whitten Scholarship because I work hard, I’m a leader, and I’m self motivated. Juggling between being in three sports, being social, and being on the Honor Roll every year was not an easy task. I always put my school work first, but finding a balance between everything else was a task not everyone could handle as successfully as I did. In addition to my busy in school schedule, during the summer I stayed busy too. When I did have football practice or workouts, I was working at the local cable company D & P Communications. I would have football workouts from eight to ten, then at ten I would drive over to D & P and work until five. Through my four years of high school at Summerfield I was involved in twelve seasons of athletics. on each team I played a different role when it comes to being a leader. I never wait until the last minute to get my work done. I’m a all around consistent person, I never just lose motivation. Most seniors suffer from senioritis, but for me I can’t say I know how they feel. I like to stay busy so I think that’s what drives me to be the motivated person I am. I am very good at working independently, but because I’m easy to get along with and keep the group on task I can work in groups too.
For these reasons I have stated I think I deserve this scholarship. The money I am awarded will not go to waste and I’m sure of it. I am determined to use hard work, leadership skills, and self motivation to not only get me through college, but to conquer college. Every penny counts in my case, I am attending University of Toledo, I am paying for my own college and a personal goal of mine is to not take out any loans. I will have to work a part time job while in college to achieve this, but if I was awarded this scholarship it would help me
