Whitney Houston stated in a 2009 exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey that her drug of choice was cocaine, marijuana and alcohol. Marijuana is one drug choice many were familiar with when it came to Whitney Houston , she was stopped in 2000 in a Hawaii airport for possession of 15.2 grams of the drug marijuana. She was charged with possession but the charge did not go far, they were later dropped by the courts. In a interview with Diane Sawyer in 2002 she was asked about her possible drug use and her appearance at the time which was startling during a performance for a tribute to the late singer Michael Jackson. Whitney Houston not only looked dangerously thin at that performance during her interview with Diane Sawyer, she appeared thinner, defensive, erratic, and very much in denial about her addiction. She told Diane Sawyer during this interview that she considered a drug use a habit, a bad habit, and not referring to her drug use as an addiction. Whitney had a excuse for everything, from her weight loss, the reason she was fired from a high profile performance at the Oscars that year, and the reason why she stayed in a relationship that enabled her "bad habits".
Houston continued to battle addiction privately and a lot of times publicly in the remaining years of her life. She checked herself into rehab in 2004 however that attempt of recovery was shortlived because she checked out in less than a week of entering. Her filing for divorce from her husband Bobby Brown in 2007 was a sign of relief for her fans because many believed he started her on her path to drug use. Bobby Brown himself was a regular drug user, however, Whitney Houston stated she started using drugs before her marriage to Bobby Brown but also admitted they did use drugs together.
Psychological and sociologically, Whitney Houston's life was taken over by her drug addiction. Her career did not fade because her fans wanted to see her get better however she tried to get back to the singing and performing but when she released her album in 1998 it did not fair as well as previous albums. Her performances were not the same and her public appearances became very questionable to if she would ever be the
