The case started back on May 20, 2005, in which a man by the name of Jerry Jackson had called the police after discovering what looked like a mannequin floating in the Grand Marais Canal in Jennings, Louisiana. Reporter Ethan Brown from Matter interviews Jackson and found out that the reason he called the police was because the mannequin was attracting flies, which it normally does not do. It started with an officer named John Briggs, who had shot and killed a man named Leonard Crochet during a drug raid, in which Briggs thought Crochet was trying to take a gun out from near him. He was later found completely unarmed. This is what most think to have been the start of the Jeff Davis 8 as word spread around to each victim. Every single victim knew about what had happened in that drug raid. Now that the victims know, the police probably knew too considering the victims were informants for the police. This is what changes the theory to that of Criminalization, or the turning of someone into a criminal. While the culprit may never be found, there is definitely evidence along with the public who accused the police for all of the crimes. We may never know who was the one to carry it all out, but it most likely stemmed from the police raid in a Jennings house. The culprit that was turned into a criminal was most likely a police officer, the real questions is which one carried out the killings? If, by some chance, the true culprit is someone completely different, it seems that the theory would change to Psychopathy as it doesn’t really make sense why anyone would kill them. Even for the police, it doesn’t make sense why they would
