I. Background of the Study

The film industry has been praised for their ingenious and exhilarating films that have inspired innumerable people all around the world. Furthermore, This industry have also provided the leisures and entertainment for the people for these past decades. Although, there are also shades and controversies that have promoted the negative things about society like racism, stereotypes, and anti-LGBT groups as said by Joanna Robinson (2015).

Furthermore, One of the controversies that have started ever since the industry began is Whitewashing. Moreover, Whitewashing has been one of the problems of Hollywood up to now which have powered up racism and has been criticized by the Blacks, Asians, Latinos,

During those times there wasn't that much characters who are written to have a specific race, making them minor roles. Moreover, There are only a few people with color who are available to act in the film which prompts them to cast white actors and to recreate a character by using blackface or even yellowface just to suit their roles that they are playing.

Whitewashing on films increased and became more racist by the 20th Century. A lot of movies are filmed due to the increasing demand of the people but as the movies increased, Whitewashing also became a common practice of casting in films in Hollywood. Because of this, whitewashing were criticized because it lowers the self-esteem of the aspiring actors who are not white.

Now, there are a lot of movies that have succeeded in fulfilling their goal to rise in the charts. But the sad part is, that there are still some movies that have gained success despite whitewashing their characters. Examples are Alicia Nash in A Beautiful Mind (2001), Ben Campbell in 21 (2008), and also The Hunger Games (2012). As said in the book, Katniss Everdeen, the main protagonist was said to have dark olive skin but it was portrayed in the movie by Jennifer Lawrence who is
